Wind Turbine System Design

A wind turbine will generate electricity when the wind blows, talk about stating the obvious, therefore a wind turbine can only be used to supplement the mains and when there is sufficient wind export electricity to the grid. Because the speed of any wind is constantly changing the output from a wind turbine is constantly changing. The electricity grid is used to stabilise the power supply, a system that can be used independantly would need to be large to cater for windless days and need batteries.

A wind turbine will have a number of moving parts which will require maintenance, the fact that the turbine will be sited at high level will increase the cost of that maintenance.

Personally unless the client was a politician who will, due to their profession, generate an excess amount of hot air and wind I would never recommend the installation of a wind turbine. A properly prepared and costed analysis of a wind turbine installation would show no benefits of installing one.
